Suzanne is a professional trainer and behaviorist who teaches seminars worldwide on a variety of topics. All of Suzanne's work with dogs and people focuses on a humane and holistic approach to the dog. This workshop will help you understand the dog's perspective: reading body language, handling leadership and communication issues, and evaluating the dog's physical limitations as they affect performance. Suzanne is a wonderful speaker with a great sense of humor, so expect to have a fabulous time and learn a lot at this seminar!

"Relationship Centered Training":

SATURDAY

  • The Geometry of Canine Body Language - this is a critical skill for anyone; accurate reading of body language contributes to accurate assessments of the dog's state of mind, responses, and appropriate training solutions for the dog.
  • Assessing Relationships: Takes Two to Tango! Understanding how the handler and the dog both contribute to the relationship, common issues, how handler habits can support or hinder a dog, knowing what to solve with the dog, what is solely the dog's, and what is an issue of team work & understanding.
  • Handler Body Language & Tool Use - practical experiments in changing handler awareness, use of body language, and specific use of tools (food/rewards, clicker, leads, movement, breath, pacing, pressure, space) - working with other humans as "dogs".
SUNDAY
  • Behavior Problems: Stand In These Paws -- An understanding of the dog's perspective, motivations and needs; how innate canine behavior drives some "problems", need for respect, empathy and accurate assessment.
  • Practical Bones: Foundation Exercises for Relationship Centered Training(tm)-- practical exercises to help strengthen the relationship at a foundation level; Puppy Politeness Poker, ACI (auto-check-in), Ghost Handling, Go Hunt, Follow Me, Say Hi 1-2-3 (need dogs for this one!)

FULL: "Your Athletic Dog":

    What Your Dog's Body Can Tell You About His Abilities.

Dogs:This is not a "working" seminar, but quiet, well-behaved dogs are always welcome to attend. Friday's seminar is limited to 20, Saturday and Sunday are limited to 60.

FULL: Private Consultations March 28 by appt.

There will be some time for private consultations on the Friday before the seminar. Check the box on the registration form if you'd like to be in the lottery draw for a private and you will be contacted for further details prior to the draw. Rates: $75 per half-hour, paid directly to Suzanne.

    $35 if you sign up for all three days. $50 otherwise.
    Limited to 20 attendees.

  • "Relationship Centered Training" (Saturday and Sunday)
    $225 for the entire weekend. $115 for one day.
    Limited to 60 attendees.

K-9 Search & Rescue Scholarships - In late 2003, Suzanne established the Sterling Gillis Memorial K-9 SAR Scholarship to honor a promising young SAR dog who was tragically killed. To support this effort, Dog Days will offer 3 scholarships to eligible K-9 Search & Rescue handlers to attend the seminar at no charge. Handlers from established K-9 SAR units are eligible, provided they apply on the group's official letterhead.

The scholarship applies to the Saturday-Sunday seminar only (not Friday).
